Mid - Week Training

Training of a mountain rescue team is very important in order to keep the members up to date with techniques, not only in technical ropework skills, but communication, search techniques and most importantly first aid and casualty care. Training is constantly updated with the latest techniques and takes place regularly. Weather and darkness have very little impact on training as most incidents we deal with are either at night or in poor weather conditions and can mean long periods on the hill.

The most important attribute of any Team member is that he or she must be a competent mountaineer. Additionally, each member must be competent in many skills such as radio operations, helicopter procedures, high vertical environments and first aid. Training takes place most Wednesday nights.

The training sessions were initially started to train up new recruits in the important areas of mountain rescue, such as navigation and rope techniques. The training sessions have now been extended to include as many members of "The Team" as possible. This enables us to gain the experience of working together as a team - which is very important.

The training undertaken by "The Team" ensures that we can cope with any search or rescue situation on steep ground. The team has developed techniques in raising and lowering stretchers on near vertical slopes.
